Antelope Valley Child, Youth & Family Services (AVCYFS) believes that children gain a sense of self respect by exposing and experiencing through guidance, motivation, reasoning, truth, and pride, which fosters knowledge and understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Foster care is intended to provide a temporary living arrangement for children who have been removed from, or voluntarily placed outside of, their biological family. This usually is because of abuse or neglect, or because the parents, for some other reason, cannot provide adequate care.
Most of our adoptive parents choose to do foster to adopt. In homes that chose to do foster to adopt, we accept only cases which are legal risk (meaning the parental rights are scheduled to be terminated) or the case details indicate a good chance of parental rights being terminated and no relatives have been located. There is a risk involved in this approach but we have had good success with this approach, thus far.
This year in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Antelope Valley Child, Youth & Family Services kicked off the month by partnering with Big Lots, Cricket, and other small businesses at a community block party in Desoto, Texas, hosted by Big Lots. Antelope Valley distributed information, bringing awareness to people in the community about child abuse and prevention and how they can join in the effort to prevent child abuse. Some of the ways people can help in this effort to prevent child abuse is to open up their doors to us, allowing us the opportunity to bring awareness by distributing information and recruiting families. Another way to join the in effort is by opening up your hearts and homes to children in need, by becoming a foster or adoptive parent. Additionally, people can talk to their churches and other businesses to spread the word of our need for venues to reach the community. Also, the remainder of the month, listen for us on Heaven 97 (96.1) from 1:20 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursdays throughout the month of April. Please be on the look out for us at various venues throughout the Metroplex, where we will be hosting a child abuse prevention table, as we bring awareness throughout the month of April. ...
